Shows to Watch Fall08- Spr09: #1
So what’s it called? Dollhouse
Who created it? Joss Whedon
When’s it airing? January 2009
What network/time? FOX Mondays at 8pm, leading into “24″
What’s it about? From countless sources, the general plot looks like this. Dolls are people that are basically hired to be the toys of the clients they are assigned to. They’re people who, for a large amount of money, have their personalities wiped clear so that they can be imprinted with whatever traits the clients want. If I went to the Dollhouse and wanted a woman to be a lizard-loving, comic obsessed, ice-cream sandwich hating chick who, among other things, loves me, they can basically imprint an ‘active’ (Doll) with those traits for my experience. Sounds interesting, albeit not so much with the moral, but a certain FBI agent has a problem with the whole illegality of the situation. The story follows Echo (played by Eliza Dushku, who played ‘Faith’ in two of Whedon’s previous shows, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”), a Doll who inexplicably begins to remember things.
So, why should I watch this? Oh, silly silly blog reader. Where should I begin?
1. It’s created by Joss Whedon. Written by Joss Whedon. Directed by Joss Whedon. Tim Minear, Steven DeKnight, Elizabeth Craft, and Sarah Fain are working on the show also. Really trust worthy-team
2. It’s by Joss Whedon. Hell, that deserves two spots. Other shows he created were “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” and “Firefly.” If that isn’t convincing enough, you haven’t seen any of those shows. Which, if you haven’t… that leads to #3.
3. Non-Whedon fans should watch this at well. It’ll be entertaining without previous Whedon knowledge, because it isn’t a spin-off or anything, so has good standalone value. It will also act as a gateway to Whedon’s other shows, because one just isn’t enough. So in tuning into “Dollhouse,” you’re really prepping yourself for thirteen seasons full of Whedony goodness.
4. It stars Eliza Dushku. She’s kinda hot stuff.
5. It’s a drama with a sci-fi spin, rife with witty dialogue and big emotion. “Lost” fans will likey.
6. There’s already a gaurentee of seven episodes. Even if it gets cancelled, which is looking unlikely with the excitement Fox has for it, we’ll have a solid DVD coming out next Fall with the episodes. Good enough for me.
7. Fox is doing this thing called “Remote-Free TV” where they cut down on the commercials. I mean, come on, less commercials and more drama? Good in my book.
8. There’s ALREADY a fansite. With a trailer. Check it out.
9. Did you see that trailer? Was it not awesome? Stop reading this and go tell your friends to watch that shiznit.
10. I could go on. I won’t. You should get the picture.
So watch. Fox. Mondays. At 8pm. Right before 24. Januar7 2009. Don’t be the only kid on the block not watching the best new show this season.
Next entry: “Fringe,” created by J. J. Abrams.
Alright then.

I’m so excited for Dollhouse! Thanks for the breakdown!
I like to think that there aren’t any non-Whedon fans… There are fans, and then the people who haven’t seen enough Buffy!
